Prayer is Wealth

Prayer is wealth. Often we think of how little we have, how we haven’t arrived or amassed the millions or billions others already have by a certain age. Well it arrives this evening, a different kind of wealth… prayer. Prayer is this untapped resource of wealth often overlooked. But if we just shift our perspective and imagine tonight how all of us have the potential to pray for others, endlessly, because we have the inherent capability to pray, meditate, or keep someone in our thoughts… elevate them in our minds as we dare to connect to the Highest; to have their best interest in heart, to wish them all that is good on this earth. How much more wealthy can we still want to be if we have the power of prayer within our reach?

when the nothingness swallows me
up and waves engulf me inside its
inevitable chasm pushing me down
towards lifelessness, i wish for
one good thought to fish me out of
my drown, one prayer to reach my
hand and rescue me from the cold
waters; restore me to the sanity
and hope that only contemplation
can revive… that prayer is best
when the seed takes root from the heart

faith is key

Faith is key, whether you believe or not… you’ve got to start somewhere. The belief in oneself coupled with enough love and meditative silence in one’s head can potentially unlock our greatest self. The only catch is believing.

faith in you and me,
where i belong and long
to be is before your
feet kneeling, believing
as i do that none can harm
me from unnecessary talk,
the nuisance of words and
their vibrations slipping
away as though wet floors
abound and i’ve nothing
more to show for (prior to
my lack of faith) than a
bruised and broken back

Perhaps it is too early, perhaps it is too late… but the courage to act, to want, to like, to love is as close and near as our cellphone’s reach. And yet, far too much, we allow external influences to get in the way… the ambiguity, the insecurity, the testimony of others that is neither truthful or genuine.

And then once in a while, we witness someone shaking with nervousness, their voice fluctuating from low to high pitches and vice versa, all their vulnerabilities, their frailties laid out for everyone to see in a struggle to relay their truth before this world. An authenticity is unmasked and, for that mere second, we see not only the color, but how beautiful and empowering being courageous can be.

that courage intertwined in light
the fluidity of my strength that
cannot be deterred lies in Him
who gathers me in His hands when
fear spooks me and the ghost inside,
marred by inherent darkness and
culpable dreams… to learn more
of kindness, compassion, thoughtful
kisses given without much inquiry–
what power harnessed through this
contemplation, I share with you
in light of tomorrow, what courage
there is lies at the heart of you
